Shopping with a two year old

Now that Gideon is potty trained, I needed to get a backpack to keep spare clothes in for daycare. So we headed to the store. Gideon decided that a backpack wasn't enough. He had to have a matching suitcase. I let him carry it around for awhile and then it found it's way back onto the shelf.

And I don't know why I think that since I only need to grab one thing the shopping trip will be quick. I keep forgetting that I have to bring a two year old with me.

And he, most definitely, has other ideas. Like trying to ride toys that are still in the box. For a very long time.

Chillin' in the cart

This would have been the best picture, if it hadn't decided to not focus. His big grin, stretched out legs, and perfect pose. These carts are Gideon's favorite at the store. He can stretch out, get all comfy, and be distracted for a moment.

And, and I can't forget, talk on his phone. Although, he didn't have a phone at this time. So he settled for his hand. I wonder who he always has to talk to?

Batman

This little man is in love with Batman! He knows exactly who batman is, but he also calls all other superheroes batman. So when I went shopping on a girl's night and found this batman shirt, it had to be bought. And then I found the hat and bought that too. He wants to wear both of them every single day.
And who blames him?? He flies around the house and declares, "I battyman!" I seriously can't get enough of it.

Cousin Day!

This is the world's worst picture, I swear. Not that we look horrible, it's just that you can't really see us! More cousins are moving near us and so our gatherings are getting bigger! Today we all met at Cousin Felicia's house - newly moved to the SLC area. And with Stacey and Holly moving back, and Heather, Ann, Maren, and I all joining in - it made for an amazing day. There was delicious food, the best of conversations, tears, laughter, and a massive search for Gideon's missing batman cape. I'm the luckiest girl alive to call these ladies my family.

A Whole Lot of Playing Going On!

After church today, Daddy and Gideon got right to work "fixing" his bike. Gideon's new favorite pass time since learning things such as drills exist. Don't worry, the drill is now hidden. Well, until Gideon finds it because I swear no place is safe around here.

Then McKade came to play. The boys tore apart the toy room. That's the only way to play!

Rice was part of dinner tonight. Gideon loves rice and he loves to be on the cupboard helping me cook. Tonight he traded in helping, for eating rice right out of the pan. Hey, it's better than filling up on fish crackers first!

Garbage truck love

I had to include all these pictures. I remember taking them and taking them and then taking another one because the moment was just so cute that every moment had to be captured. This is Gideon's most favorite part of every Thursday - the garbage truck! It starts up the street from our house, comes to our house, and then down the street. Gideon RUNS to the window, climbs on the window cat platform, and yells "garbage truck" over and over again. It's entertaining how much he loves this regular event. Ah, little boys!

"I fix it!"

Obsession isn't a strong enough word to describe Gideon's love of the drill. Power tools are his new love. As soon as he woke up this morning, he went to the drawer he saw Daddy put the tool away in, took it out, and got right to work "fixing." He was so excited to tell me that he was fixing it all by himself. I wanted to be excited for him and cheer him on, I really did. But I'm not so sure that encouraging this is the best idea. Oh boy, are we in trouble.

Daddy's helper

Okay, this picture isn't about Gideon being a helper, but I HAD to include it! My little reader even brings books to the potty. It was too cute to not take a picture!

The plate part of the door knob on Gideon's door was loose. It made it hard to open and close his door quietly. And sometimes it would get stuck. Not so great for an already struggling little sleeper. Daddy fixed it tonight and Gideon had his first exposure to power tools. Let's just say he is hooked!

"Me do it! Me do it!" was said over and over and over. Let's just say fixing one small little plate took a lot longer than expected. But Gideon sure did have fun helping.

Gideon the photographer

Gideon has figured out how to 1) obtain the camera, 2) turn the camera on, 3) take pictures. Note to self: no where in this house is safe anymore. He has taken hundreds of pictures!! Here are a few of my favorites. Don't worry, I erased the one he took of me on the potty. For reals. I didn't know I needed to be worried about that quite yet!

I'm grateful he captured this picture doing a small moment of cleanliness. Some days you can't walk in this room without stepping on something.

Gideon has a slight obsession for the dishwasher. I often have to refill the dirty dishes he takes out and leaves on the floor. He also discovered he can open the door, stand on it, get on the cupboard, and have access to all sorts of things!

And here, Daddy is teaching him the in's and out's of taking a selfie.

Valentines Day and Potty Training update!

Gideon is in LOVE with his Daddy's old razor. I have no idea if it could actually work or not. Perhaps I should find that out...
He mostly "shaves" his head. But that makes perfect sense. He doesn't have any hair on his face!

Gideon had been dying to have this shovel. Every time we go to the store he would cry for it. So he got one for Valentine's day!

We went to a fun little playgroup Valentine's party. It was planned right during Gideon's nap. We didn't stay too long after Gideon ripped the table cloth off one of the tables, pushed a chair over to the food table where he climbed on and started eating, and he totally refused to eat anything but candy and even took to stealing candy off other children's plates. Yup, it was time to go.

Brian said he needed some snacks for work. I may have gone a little snack overload but it was fun to match all sorts of foods to cute sayings. He was totally surprised!

Gideon continues to do AMAZING with potty training. He even wakes up dry every nap and most nights. Accidents are rare. This has taken me totally by surprise. It really can't be this easy, can it??

And for dinner I made one of my favorite meals: homemade waffles with strawberries and whip cream. Happy Valentine's Day!!

Painting

I thought it was about time to buy this little guy some paints. Plus they were on sale AND I had a coupon. There couldn't be a better time to purchase such loveliness!

Gideon, of course, painted with yellow first. His most favorite color in the world.

He did venture onto other colors and loved mixing them. He would giggle in delight.

Then he wanted to play with the 1000 beads (not really, but cleaning them up sure made it feel like there were 1000 of them) that I needed for a school learning center. Let's just say painting was a great success and the beads were hidden far, far away after the major clean up.

Potty Training!

It's the official first day of being off track and what better way to celebrate than to dive into potty training!! To me, Gideon had been showing lots of signs he was ready to be potty trained. I feel like I could have done this earlier but I wanted time to study and get a plan in place. Well, no plan was necessarily needed. This kid has been amazing on day one. I simply told him no more diapers and expected a bunch of accidents. I even kind of thought in the back of my mind he wasn't really ready and I would quit after a few days. But this kid has had ZERO accidents his entire first day of potty training. In fact, the first time he went it was poo. Everyone says that's the hardest to get kids to learn!! He could care less about any type of award - stickers, candy, toys. He's just happy to be home and loves being diaper free. Let's hope this keeps up!!

Lost and Found

So I've been wanting some sort of change in my life lately, so I decided to start redoing my house. Just little things. Just enough to be different. We've lived in our house almost eight years now and I've never really decorated. Just used the stuff we already had. However, when we redid our bathroom I picked out the most beautiful color blue for the walls. Well, the color is totally purple which is a hard color to match. Call me crazy but I have NO desire to repaint the bathroom, so instead I searched high and low for a shower curtain that would match that tricky purple color and my budget. And I found one!!! In a discount bin and the color was dead on perfect. I couldn't believe it. I was so so excited. And then I looked around and couldn't find Gideon.

I totally panicked. Like on the verge of total breakdown/freak out. Then I saw him, about 1 1/2 feet away from me sitting in this massage chair. There was a tv across the aisle from the chair. He was trying to figure out how to change the channels with the massage chair remote! I calmed my pounding heart down and happily bought my $5.00 shower curtain!!!

Blankie Hat

Since it's been (finally) getting a little warmer around here, I stopped putting a hat on Gideon during the drive to daycare every morning. I guess he's missing wearing a hat, however, because he keeps making himself one from his blankies every morning. We barely make it to the first light and he is letting me know he's got his hat on. Love this boy of mine!

Someone's getting OLD!

I'm referring to ME! I'm getting old. I remember, as a child, thinking that 40 was SO OLD! Now I'm almost 40!! Gulp!

Brian, as a very rare treat, let me sleep in today. It's nice when one's birthday and a Saturday align together in some sleep-in blissfulness.

The boys did not last long without me though. I was up by 8 and opening gifts. But it's the thought that counts, right?? I got exactly what I asked for. That's how it works around here. Donut pans and a little vacuum.

Gideon was ALL over my vacuum. He had the entire living room vacuumed in no time.

I even taught him how to vacuum up his own messes. I can see this being a delightful skill for blessing my future!

That night we went to a steakhouse with some friends. We had been there once before and I was still dreaming of the salmon and sweet potato tots I had. And of course, both items were no longer on the menu. They did make up for it with a huge and massive ice cream dessert I got for FREE just for being the birthday girl! And here's to hoping this year I will actually be able to remember how old I am without having to figure it out every time I'm required to know! Although I can't really complain because last year, when I thought I was a year older than I was and my mom corrected me, getting that whole year back of my life was quite wonderful! Happy birthday to me!
