Tracy Aviary

Mary and I headed up to Tracy Aviary today to let the boys run around. We did some awesome stuff and, of course, this was the only picture I took. Can you see Gideon laying on the ground? Totally spread eagle in the blue circle? He was spinning and spinning and spinning the tower around and fell in sheer exhaustion. Hilarious! Before this happened, not only did we enjoy seeing all the birds, we got to go inside the Sun Contures cage and feed them. That was amazing. All these adorable yellow birds that would fly right onto your hands to eat. Then fly away quickly at Gideon's giggles. We also fed the pelicans and some crazy ducks. We were given big buckets full of small fish that we literally tossed right into the birds open beaks. Totally worth the $2.00 it cost!! I'm excited to go back again!

Little artist!

Gideon has really gotten into drawing lately. It's probably because he sees his Daddy drawing cars a lot. So I totally shouldn't have been surprised that the first thing he decides to draw is a car! And isn't it adorable??? And look, he even got exactly four wheels on his car. It's amazing to see him discover that he can put shapes together to make something else. Oh, I just love this smart kid of mine!

Canning continues...

I just can't kick my canning bug. All the years of teaching school and wishing I could can, but never having time. Guess I'm making up for all those years of longing. Ketty joined me tonight where we tackled 40 lbs of tomatoes.

We ended up using my stove and her camp stove to speed up the process. Having to cook the tomatoes, squeeze the juice and pulp out of them, only to heat them again, and finally process them took forever!! But we had fun! We made pizza sauce and enchilada sauce...and this is just my take!

This kid...

There are not enough words to describe this kid. He's hilarious, and is constantly saying the funniest things. He uses words way beyond his age. His new favorite is 'perhaps' and he even uses it correctly!! He is extremely head strong. He doesn't give up...for days. And he hates not getting his own way and being told no. Lots of fits and tantrums fill our days. He remembers everything! Even weeks later he will still remember something I wouldn't buy him at the store and remind me about it. He remembers things he played with or wanted at someone's house and goes directly to that item the next time we visit. He remembers what people tell him. He can tell me most of his favorite stories without even looking at the book. He loves to learn new things, especially if it involves hands on learning. Gideon loves art - painting, playdough, stampers, coloring. Although, like most activities, he only last about 5 minutes before moving on. His favorite times of the day are helping Mommy cook. He hears me start working in the kitchen and comes a running! He is really into dressing up and goes through all his costumes every day. The day he figured out he could mix and match his costumes brought a whole new vigor into his dressing up. I mean, who doesn't want to be batman-superman-spiderman at the same time!! He hates to sleep, and I don't use the word hate lightly. He has super stay awake as long as possible skills, the best I've ever encountered. He LOVES fruits and vegetables and will rarely eat meat and bread products. His favorites are apples, broccoli, edamame, and pears. Gideon loves superheros (especially Batman), Curious George, Omizoomi's, and Daniel Tiger. His two most favorite things to do are be outside and read books. We sure love him around here!!!

Little Knight

Gideon has really gotten into dressing up lately. We don't have much around here for dress ups, so I checked out a few discount places. We found this knight armor at the dollar store!!

Or as Gideon says, "Look mommy, I'm a KNIFE!" The cutest knife I've ever seen!

Train ride with Ketty

Tonight while Mommy and Daddy were at young women's and young men's, Ketty took Gideon for a ride on the UTA train. He was thrilled!!!

Every time we see the train he tells me how much he wants to ride on it! Ketty made his dreams come true!!

She said he sat there totally still, just staring out the window! When I asked him about his train ride, he told me his favorite part was holding Ketty's hand while they waited for the train!!

Perfect Sunday!

Today felt like a perfect day. It was the dedication for the Odgen temple so we didn't have to get up and rush to church. Or make sure our lessons were prepared. Or fight Gideon to get dressed. Instead, we just played.
McKade came over while his mom and dad went to the Temple dedication. Gideon loved having a friend to play with. Although Daddy hve to fill in once McKade went home.

We played a new game we got. It's just like Jenga but with child friendlier blocks. Gideon just liked the falling down part!

Then we dropped Gideon off at McKade's house and went to the Temple Dedication. We went to the last one of the day and I seriously felt that the speakers were speaking directly to me. Every talk was filled with things that I NEEDED to hear. It's amazing how well the Lord knows us and our needs.

Then Gideon and I made some to-die-for cherry vanilla cookies. Oh my deliciousness. Good thing they were to share with neighbors!

Gideon LOVES to help cook. He tried spreading icing this time, but he didn't like it at all. He told me that was my special job!

He patiently waited for each cookie so he could put "sparkles" on them!! Today was one of my most favorite Sundays ever!

Little Adventure in our Saturday

Today was one of those days we just needed a little adventure in our day. For reals. Satan is really discouraging me right now and making life a little too hard. And with Brian's new job he works every third Saturday so we were home all alone. Lakeshore has little art projects every Saturday so we headed up there. Gideon, who usually loves anything art, was not really interested in making this drum. He wanted to play with the toys! Usually, this kid would cover every millimeter of the plate in paint. Today, we got this. Totally makes me laugh!!

This kitchen is fun! So many things store behind all the doors that open and close. Gideon could play here for hours. Seriously. I should bring a book next time we go and let him do just that!! The kitchen reminds me of Caillou with all it's colors. Too bad it costs $400!!!

And it's even better that it has a table with dishes and food. This kid is in heaven! It was a great way to break up the lonely day. Plus, I'm going to be participating in a busy book exchange here soon and I really wanted to make some lacing cards but I needed shoelaces made of yarn in order to make them more durable. I should have known Lakeshore would have exactly what I was looking for! And of course a digital coupon at my easy disposal.

Later that night I told Gideon we were going to a friend's house. We got all ready and then it didn't work out. Thankfully, Daddy was home from work by then and he came to the park with us. I was standing there, enjoying the night, when I was attached by this GIANT bug. Too bad someone wasn't randomly video taping me, my reaction was hilarious. Jumping around, screaming, swatting myself. Classic!

Even though the bug is pretty whited out in this picture that Brian took (I continued to stay far away from that thing), I still thought it was a pretty cool view. It stayed around us for a long time. Well, until Gideon decided he wanted to hold it. Then it found somewhere else to go!

It's looking like fall!

Brian and Johnny headed up to the mountains to check out where they were going to be hunting in a few weeks. Brian was amazed by the colors and took a ton of pictures. This one I love for all the different colors.

This one is Brian's favorite.

And this one I'd like to frame and hang in my house. LOVE!

Today Mary, Sonja, and I put up about 100 quarts of peaches and pears. It was a LONG day. I was ready to be done when the peaches were finished and cried inside we still had the pears to go. We learned that every time the water we used to heat the fruit to loosen it's skin got colored, it needed to be changed. The first box of peaches flew by, but the other three took forever. All due to dirty water. We changed the water to do pears and were amazed how much easier the skins came off. So we started switching out the water every box, and the skins kept coming off so easy. Miracle. I will never make that mistake again.

Ketty saved me by coming to get Gideon when she got off work. He missed his nap and seems to find that making Sonja's girls cry is a fun activity. Did I mention it was a long day?? But oh so worth it. Look at all these lovely jars for my family to enjoy!

Picking cantalope

Every single time we go over to Grandma and Grandpa Gwynn's house, Gideon asks if he can pick a cantalope. For some reason, he's just itching to have one. We wonder if it's because he thinks it's a ball! We have to watch him closely when he plays in the backyard because he's come close pulling a cantalope off a time or two. We have a garden at home and he knows to wait for the beans and peas to be bigger or the tomatoes to be red. But he just has to pick a cantalope.

One day Grandma let us know Grandpa had found a cantalope that was all ready to be picked. Gideon was very excited! Grandpa helped him pick it and he handed it right over to me so he could play with the rocks. Haha!!

Dinosaur Hat

Every Tuesday, while Brian and I are at young men's and young women's, Gideon spends the evening with Ketty. He asked Ketty to make him this hat. Ketty agreed and even let him pick the colors. And of course, he refused to wear it for her the night she gave it to him. Stinker!

So I grabbed these photos at home to share with her. He loves to wear it around the house and roar, just like a dinosaur!!

Shooting Range

We went to the shooting range! I've been wanted to go FOREVER! And today we finally went. It was nothing, at all, even close, to what I imagined. Perhaps even a polar opposite. First it was incredibly loud. Like kill my ears even with ear protection on. It's hard to concentrate on the killing machine you have in your hand when your entire body vibrates from the massive gun being shot in the next room over. And then the guy a couple of booths down from us had a coach right next to him and and group of people watching him outside the window. I'm not sure what I was expecting, just didn't think I'd be so aware of everyone else, I guess. Then, shooting a gun is crazy. Brian said that's because the gun I had was too powerful for me. No matter how perfectly I planted my feet, and precisely I held my gun, my arms would rebound every single time. Annoying! I really did think there would be some type of romance to this adventure with Brian showing me how to shoot. But there wasn't. I'll go again, but I'll use a much smaller gun.

Not too shabby for my first time, right?? Haha! This is Brian's.

This is me. I'm excited I hit the paper!!

Baptism Gifty

I have a Young Woman that is getting baptized and I got asked to welcome her to the ward during her baptism! I'm so nervous because I have no idea what I'm doing. So I asked the Primary President and she gave me some great advice and then told me about the treat she gives to the kids. A treat?? So I searched the internet for ideas and came up with this. Salt water taffy in the value colors on a skewer, attached to the Young Women's Motto. I headed to the baptism much more sure of myself and excited for how everything turned out!

Brian's Birthday!

This has nothing to do with Brian's birthday but it's so funny, it's got to be written down! Grandpa across the street has jowels (is that how you spell that?) and that part of his neck that hangs down. Gideon is obsessed with it. Every time Grandpa holds him, Gideon must touch his neck. He has also named that piece of skin a "gobble gobble!" Gideon doesn't understand why he doesn't have one. Well, today we were driving around and he excitedly YELLED from the back seat that he had, indeed, found his very own gobble gobble!! He even wanted me to take a picture and send it to Grandpa!
Gideon fell asleep on the drive home. People were going to be arriving soon for Brian's birthday party, so I put him in the chair thinking he wouldn't sleep as long. Well, several guests arrived before this kiddo finally woke up!

Brian's yearly tradition, a homemade cheesecake, for his birthday! I tried a new recipe this year. Not the best idea but the cheesecake was not delicious. And when cheesecake takes as much effort as it does, it had better be delicious. Oh well, I can start planning now for next year!

Sonja, Landon, Ketty, and Mary

Johnny and Brian talking with Jared, Andrew, and Stacey in the background.

Grandma and Grandpa Gwynn.

Gideon was the best helper at opening gifts.

And playing with the wrapping paper! I didn't tell Brian I had invited anyone over. They just started showing up!! Hehe! This year Brian got new sleeping bags, a bunch of ammo, fruit pies, a movie, and something else I can't remember.

Salsa Day

Isn't he the cutest helper in the universe?? While I was working, I was always sad when fall rolled around and I couldn't can anything. That would require not bringing home hours of work everyday. Well, now that I'm not working, I planned out my canning adventures. I spent this morning canning salsa with Mary and Sonja. I didn't get a picture of the jars and jars of salsa, but when my little helper needed an apron too, I did manage to snap a photo of that. I canned about 30 pints of salsa today and made it nice and chunky and spicy, just like Brian likes. Well, good think he liked it since today is his birthday!

8th Anniversary

Eight years, people!! We've made it eight years. I always imagined there would be more children by this point, but that hasn't been Heavenly Father's plan for us. So here we are. Just the three of us. Eight years under our belts. We went to breakfast at IHOP. And even went out to dinner at my favorite Tepanyaki. Yeah for no dishes and cooking for me!!!
