Halloween Crafties

One thing I PROMISE myself I could do once I retired from teaching, was to craft up a storm. And crafting I have been doing.
This is a mostly finished Halloween countdown chart I made. The stores were already out of all the cute Halloween stickers so this will have to wait until next year when I put the numbers on it and decorate it. I was not settling for stickers I didn't love. I plan on putting a few treats in here, but mostly fun activities, like going to Peterson's farm, or making cookies, or carving pumpkins...that sort of thing.

I saw this ghost garland on pinterest and HAD to make it. It turned out a million times cuter than I ever imagined. And so easy. And cheap. I love the straight haired ghost verses the curly haired one. I'm glad a few turned out curly haired...we need more representation in our house!

And then this adorable Halloween swag. I found perfect material, cut strips, tied them on, and I'm totally in love.
I saw this ghost burlap and knew it was made for me! So I turned it into a cute table runner.

Then some perfect Halloween wood shapes to decorate my book shelves. My house looked SO Halloweeny. I LOVED it!

Halloween

You know how in Utah your license plate registration expires every year? And how it always expires by the end of the month? So here it is, October 31st, the very last day of the month and I'm finally renewing my registration. I thought the place would be so busy with all the other slackers like me, but no one was there. We were in and out in no time. Gideon loved this whatever it is businesses put up to attract people. He thought is was so funny they had a "dancing cheese stick!!"

Gideon took some great selfies while we were running a couple of errands. Why do I think it's a good idea to run errands on Halloween?? Someone please remind me next year to just stay home on Halloween.

It was finally time to suit up and head to our friend's house to go trick or treating. This poor batman fell asleep on the way there! It was only 5 and the fun hadn't even started yet!

Which is probably what made him have a lapse of judgement when he put on these pink mini mouse ears!
Then from his sudden tiredness Gideon REFUSED to go trick or treating. He didn't care that every house was giving all the kids candy. He was NOT getting out of that stroller.

And whenever I tried to talk to him, he would do this! Not a happy batman today.

But when he saw baby Dawson...I mean baby Batman...he was all over that. "Let me hold that baby!"

Then Daddy was able to join us from work and Gideon finally gave trick or treating a try. And LOVED it! I know this shot is blurry, but seriously, it was too adorable not to include.

And we were finally reunited with our buddy, Rex...I mean Superman. These boys were CRAZY once they got together. This couch was a launching pad, they ran all over the house, ate a million pieces of candy (maybe that had something to do with it!) and had a complete and utter blast. We did MORE trick or treating after this and these two boys ran from house to house. Quite a different scene from earlier tonight.
Across the street from Crystal's house is a guy that goes ALL OUT for Halloween! My kind of person. He starts decorating months in advance. His entire yard is COVERED in all things Halloween and if you pay, you can go inside where the house is filled with all things Halloween. He raises money for different causes every year. We always check it out...but from the free outside view.

And at the end of the day (early morning gym, daily 5K walk, running errands, and trick or treating) I hit a new record on my fit bit: over 20,000 steps in one day. I felt like I was walking all day. How do people get this many all the time? Anyways, I super impressed with myself. Doesn't that mean I can eat more candy than normal??

Peterson's Farm...again!

We really do love Peterson's farm. We come lots of times in the fall. And not just to play...they have an amazing farmer's market you can buy all sorts of delicious items from. But Gideon's favorite part has always been this big area full of corn to play in. I sit and enjoy the sun and a good book while he plays and plays and plays. And it's totally FREE! Win-Win!!

We always have to try out the tractors and take pictures. It's simply tradition!

And get our picture taken on the bales of hay!

This year Gideon also gave the "rolling a pumpkin into a hole" game a try. It probably took him 15 minutes and a million grunts, but he did it. This farm is much more entertaining than our not really existing backyard. He gets dirty, is well entertained, and I get a couple chapters done in a book.

Halloween Cookies!

Today Mary and McKade came over for our traditional Halloween sugar cookie decorating!! In all my years of working with little guys, I gave each boy cups with their very own icing in it. That way, they could lick their knife and double dip to their hearts content!

Gideon's philosophy was one candy for the cookie, several candies for me! Smart kid!

Some of Gideon's finished product. I love how icing is simply used for attaching candy, not to cover the cookie with!

And of course, the cookie can't have all the icing. Most must go directly to the mouth. Yummy!

More of today's beautiful creations! Mary and I decorated some all by ourselves too and gave most of them to the ladies we visit teach. I don't know what it is about traditions but I just LOVE them! It's been fun to establish my own little family traditions.

Having fun with Daddy

While I'm at church meetings, Daddy and Gideon always do the craziest stuff. Like put funny things on their heads.

And get half dressed for church while playing with hangers. Which I'm sure that hanger was a multitude of weapons as they played.

And cover their heads in clown fish stickers. And these are just the crazy things I have photographic evidence of. Sometimes, the entire house blows up while I'm gone. Well, at least they are having more fun than me!!!

Salt Lake Farmer's Market

We headed it on down to the Salt Lake Farmer's Market today with the Hansen's and Rebekah. Luckily, there wasn't anything there left for me to can, so my canning streak officially is over. I did however enjoy some delicious food and found the BEST mustard for Brian. He was one happy guy! It's called Wilson's Wicked Mustard and according to my mustard loving husband, it was the best mustard he's ever had. I just used the word mustard three times in that last sentence. I've got skills!! But the best part EVER was meeting this here owl!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE owls. That's why I want to live somewhere I could have resident owls in my backyard. I know, keep dreaming. For today, I got to get really close and take a picture.

Trick or Treat Pumpkin

I'm getting my crafty on!! This was my Halloween pumpkin when I was a kid that I collected all my trick or treat candy in. My mom made it! So cute, right? But when you have five siblings, and only a boy child, you don't always inherit the things you love. So I did the next best thing...

I made Gideon his very own!! Right from my momma's pattern. I LOVE the way it turned out. And I enjoyed making one much more than inheriting one.

Here's another view! I'm not very good at sewing, so when I see something I made, and it turned out perfect, it's so exciting!!! Countdown to trick or treating!!

Enjoying fall

This kid knows too much about cars already! He put this block of wood behind his car so it wouldn't roll away. It wasn't really rolling away.

We headed on over to Gardner Village to check out the witches. Gideon wanted his picture by all the pumpkins. He was not a fan of the witches and refused pictures by any of them!! Oh, I LOVE fall!
